We%26#39;re planning to come to San Antonio for a couple of days and need to be in the centre of things. Can anyone advise us on the best area to aim for and any good motel/hotels. Not looking for high end, under $130 per night if possible.
Thanks all.
Best area.
If you want the center of things you need to be downtown in the Riverwalk area. Finding a hotel under $130.00 / night could be a problem unless you get a bit creative. We use priceline for San Antonio downtown and have rarely failed finding a 4 star property for about $100. If you are not picky about what hotel and hotel location on the Riverwalk I believe this is the way to go. You could try the Drury properties. They are usually a good value with excellent location and amenities.

Best area.
Found $119.00 rate at the Omni La Mansion del Rio...a grand old hotel right on the river through the SAVE link previously posted. Definitely a great value and a super hotel at that price.
If you have a car beware, the downtown parking prices are on par of any major U.S. city...expect $25-$35 a day.
Best rate from the hotel website without the promo code is $199.00.

Thanks so much, we%26#39;ll check out those links.
San Antonio isn%26#39;t exactly sprawling, so if you are willing to rent a car, you can get a nice room on the Northwest side fairly inexpensively. It%26#39;s only about 15 minutes down to the Riverwalk area from there. You can park near the Alamo for $5-10 per day.
The Drury near La Cantera (another great area!) is set to open this summer. You%26#39;ll probably be able to get an introductory rate there, depending on when you arrive.
The Omni at the Colonnade is reasonably nice, also, and will be much more affordable. This area isn%26#39;t as nice as the Riverwalk or Cantera, but it%26#39;s not bad, either...
If you are not planning to rent a car staying on the Riverwalk you may want to check these out.

Such great information, thank you all.
I clicked onto the link mentioned %26amp; typed in the SAVE code %26amp; I think I got a good rate at the Hyatt. It looks central %26amp; very comfortable, just what I%26#39;m looking for.
I just need to book somewhere in Fredericksburg %26amp; Austin now......any ideas????
Central is really important even though we%26#39;ll have a car, as we only want one night in each town.
The Hyatt Regency IMO has the best location in downtown SA.
For Austin. If you want to stay downtown my two choice are the #1 Driskell (6th Street) %26amp; the #2 Stephen F Austin (intercontinial hotel) (5th Street). Those might be a little over priced. The Radisson has a very good location its right on the river next to the Congress Ave bridge, just step out the door and see the bats at night depending when you are arriving.
Other choices are Austin Motel and San Jose both on South Congress, both very trendy. I would pick the Austin.
Fredericksburg - there are lots of places to stay. If you want a hotel/motel any place is fine. If you want a B%26amp;B which is what most want, the biggest reservation service is Gastehaus Schmidt.
Thanks again for all your help.
After much searching online we finally booked two night in Austin at the Sheraton Regency. Got the lowest rate on their own website. Hope we%26#39;ve chosen the right place %26amp; it%26#39;s not too far from everything?
