Lost Colony #17

Just got back from trip to Port A. Loved the beach -the beach house, on the other hand, was a complete letdown. At $425 a night, I expected everything to be in top working order. This was supposed to be a 4 bedroom, 4 bath house. Well, guess it was but you have to go down the outside stairs to the bedroom under the deck. We got there thinking it was a part of the main house and it hadn%26#39;t been cleaned for the last ';25 times'; the maid had ';cleaned'; (I use the word loosely) the house. Broken glass, paint peeling off, no locks on slider doors (used wood poles to keep doors ';locked';), broken upstairs jaccuzzi that used all hot water to fill, dirty, pet urine stains and smell, broken floor tiles, 5 broken beach umbrellas, cheap outdoor plastic chairs, wood rot on decks, dust on blinds, water stains on drapes and mold growing out of heater vents. You%26#39;re expected to start laundry load before you leave and leave no trash or used dishes. NO maid service and only couple towels per bathroom so frequent laundry is a must. You have to buy your own laundry soap and paper products. We had to clean the glass doors ourselves just to be able to enjoy the gulf view. The kicker was when we got there for our 6 night vacation they ask didn%26#39;t we want the 7th night free? Never knew about this when made reservation. Lots of nicer places out there for the money.

Thanks for the info, that was horrible to pay that much to get a run down place. Thanks for letting other know about this terrible place. We usually stay at Sandcastle condo %26amp; never had a problem, The property is kept up well %26amp; very clean.

Lost Colony #17

Appreciate you letting us all know. we are leaving to go back to Port A in June and I had started looking for other places. We always stay at A Laughing Horse Lodge and have always loved it, just thought we might try something different this year. Guess not, you scared me. I booked our rooms at A Laughing Horse Lodge today. I guess I should have know to stay with what you know is great! thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KS thanks for your review. My family is staying in one of the Lost Colony houses in June. Not sure which one because it belongs to someone my sister knows so we%26#39;re getting a really good deal. But how is the area that these are in? I know its the green one across the street from the pool. Don%26#39;t know what this really means but we can%26#39;t really see the beach since the dunes are so large. But how is the beach in this area? Is the water pretty? How about jellyfish? We usually go to Destin, Fla. I know its not that clear but Florida has awful jellyfish and little stinging things. We went to SPI a few years back and absolutely loved it! Again, the water wasn%26#39;t like Florida but still beautiful and NO jellyfish the entire week we were there! Are there many people on the beach in this area? Also, is this in the middle of Port A and Corpus? Where is the ferry located from this location? Thanks for your help!

Hi Red - The Lost Colony is at the end of the drive behind a security gate which the management company gives a code for on check in all the way in Port A. There are multi colored homes on the drive before you get to the gate. Don%26#39;t think any gulf view but I could be wrong. I saw an area for a pool with the colored homes but must have been extremely small since I saw no water from street. Lost colony has a very small pool for residents/visitors. Maybe we touched very unlucky because some of the houses looked like improvements have been made (hurricane shutters, etc) Maybe this one just bad management. Lost Colony homes are all grey. Beach was great and can walk forever. Last year we stayed at Sandpiper which is next condo complex to the north. Liked it there. Last year lots of jellyfish and shells on beach - this year I saw no jellyfish and sparse shells???? The water got rougher everyday which is great if you want to try surfing but last day I couldn%26#39;t stay in water due to undertow. Water cold but tolerable this time of year. We went March 2009. Good Luck!

So the pool in the pictures near the gray houses is not the pool for the colored houses? These are seperate? I thought they were all Lost Colony. I%26#39;m sooo confused, lol.

Hi Red - Sorry to confused but I think the multi- colored homes have a pool - maybe it is shared with lost colony also. There is a security gate that is just before the gray homes. Look at this site and you will see the Lost colony homes with numbers on them - I honestly don%26#39;t think the multi-colored homes are Lost Colony but I sure could be wrong! Port Aransas is approx 10 mins away from Lost Colony. The ferry is in Port A. Have a great time. lostcolonyporta.com/images/Lost-Colony.jpg

Dear Red,

I just got back from Port Aransas. We stayed at Lost Colony for a week. I would echo what prairiedweller wrote. We stayed at 20LC with many of the same problems. You are staying at Lost Colony Villas. The good news is you are a lot closer to the only dumpster on the property! Lost Colony and Lost Colony Villas are two different properties. The only thing they share are the boardwalk and dumpster. The pool for the villas is very small, tiny. You will not be able to see the ocean from your house unless it has a rooftop deck. You will be about a block from the boardwalk.

I too love Destin but stopped going because everytime we went there was a water quality problem. Port A water is not clear like Destin but it is OK. We had a few jelly fish last week but not many. The sea week was increasing as we left but it comes and goes. Lost Colony is pretty far out so the beach will not be too crowded. On Thursday we had it all to ourselves.

Enjoy your trip.
