Looking to book some lodging and most sites have hotels and condos broken down by gulf side, inner island and ocean side. By the name, ocean side sounds best. However I ran across a picture that shows an overview of the island and it appears the gulf side, at least from this one pic, has larger more sprawling beaches. Can anyone tell me if this is true and which side, if any, is better?
South Padre Island - Gulf side or Ocean side?
The beaches are on what you call the ';Ocean side'; which is the side facing the open Gulf of Mexico. The other side faces a bay--Laguna Madre and is not beachy but has some water sports.
Most of the better properties are on the outer, ';Ocean side'; but really it%26#39;s a very narrow island and nothing is far away from anything else.

the term ';inner island'; means you have to walk a few blocks to the beach. Look for an ocean front property if you can.
