Dallas zoo with 3 year old--questions

We%26#39;ll be visiting Dallas on Memorial Day weekend and are considering the Dallas zoo on the Sunday of that weekend. I wondered if anyone could share their thoughts on this zoo and if it would be an enjoyable day for us. My 3 year old loves petting zoos and our local zoo%26#39;s has been closed for a while, so I would love to take him to a good one. How crowded does this zoo usually get on holiday weekends?

Also, are you allowed to bring bags in? We still need to carry extra clothing and clean-up things for him at this age. I also usually carry snacks and milk (sippy cup) b/c he has a food allergy. Will I be allowed to bring this in (could not find anything about this on the website)? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Dallas zoo with 3 year old--questions

I live in Dallas and the Dallas zoo is fun for young children and does have a petting zoo. It can get pretty crowded on holiday weekends. Be aware that it could be quite hot by the end of May, although there is plenty of shade available. There is a large tree covered picnic area and bringing your own bag in is ok.

You will probably spend most of your time in the children%26#39;s zoo/area:

You can bring in extra clothes - you%26#39;ll need them because there is a stream in the children%26#39;s zoo/area that they all love and get soaked!!

I%26#39;ve always brought my own food and drink in - that is not a problem.

The children%26#39;s area is in zoo north which is the older area - some of the exhibits are dated and this gives the zoo a bad reputation. But there are some newer exhibits in this are like the tigers and the children%26#39;s zoo/area.

Wilds of Africa side is much better and it%26#39;s a nice loop around that%26#39;s mostly all shaded.

Thanks for the replies and information! We%26#39;ll plan to go and take supplies in with us, but we%26#39;ll also be watching the weather closely. If it%26#39;s just too hot, we may have to skip it. Since we%26#39;re also going to the Yankees/Rangers game on Memorial Day, I don%26#39;t want to have 2 possibly really hot days, back to back. Thank you again for the information--I am looking forward to our trip and hope we%26#39;ll make it to the zoo (and petting zoo!).
