I am coming to town for a conference on Weds and will be staying at the Radisson Town Lake. We plan on staying an extra night on Friday. What would you suggest is a must do? We are in our 40s and would like some live music. I am not sure about 6th street - I felt old the last time I went which was 15 yrs ago.
What would you suggest?
Quick Trip to Austin
www.donnsdepot.com is the web address for Donn%26#39;s Depot. There%26#39;s live music, dancing on E. 5th in several old railroad cars. While it%26#39;s a mixed age group, it tends toward an older clientele than 6th Street.
May if you haven%26#39;t seen Esther%26#39;s Follies www.esthersfollies.com on 6th, I%26#39;d start there and then go to Donn%26#39;s.
Welcome to Austin!
Quick Trip to Austin
Esther%26#39;s is fun. I think you%26#39;d fit in with the crowd at the Continental Club, we%26#39;re in our 40s and feel comfortable there. We also like Antone%26#39;s depending on who is playing.
6th Street is a younger crowd definitely interested in drinking. It is a great scene but for quintessential Texas music check out any of the following venues.
Broken Spoke http://www.brokenspokeaustintx.com/
The Continental Club http://www.continentalclub.com/
Emos http://www.emosaustin.com/
Cactus Café www.utexas.edu/student/txunion/ae/cactus/
Saxon Pub, but get there early if you want a seat at the tables (it%26#39;s a fairly small place). http://www.thesaxonpub.com/cal2.html
Check out the Austin Chronicle for all of the entertainment options www.austinchronicle.com/
Thank you all for your suggestions - I really appreciate them.
