Breakfast Tacos etc

So, it%26#39;s only 9 1/2 more weeks until our vacation in San Antonio visiting friends and family. We haven%26#39;t been in 2 1/2 years, and can%26#39;t wait to eat at the usual suspects such as Chris Madrids, Rudy%26#39;s, La Fogata, Liberty Bar.

We are staying at the Hotel Contessa on the RW, and would like to know of some local places that serve great breakfast tacos. We don%26#39;t get them up here in the North-East, and can%26#39;t wait to sink our teeth into them. Doesn%26#39;t need to be dowtown, we have a car, and do know our way around SA since my husband grew up there and I lived in SA for more than 2 years.

Also, are there any new places that are worth a visit?

And... do you know of any reliable and prompt cab services just in case we want to party a little bit away from the RW.

Thanks so much for your advise, Viva Fiesta, and Go Spurs.

Breakfast Tacos etc

There will be many different opinions but my fave for breakfast tacos is right down the street from my house..It is El Milagrito on N ST Marys and Woodlawn..Barbacoa is awesome..Up the street from there is Taco Taco Cafe on Mcullough and Hildebrand..It was rated best in town but the reviews are mixed and I have not tried them..Another place is Original donut shop on Fredericksburg Road..Donuts and tacos..There is also the original Blanco Cafe on Blanco Road..Some new places to check out are Roaring Fork,Wildfish Grill, and Pavil that are all in the same strip center off of 1604..The first 2 are an Eddie V chain out of Austin..Pavil is owned by one of the best chefs in SA..

Breakfast Tacos etc

What is a breakfast taco? Something I need to try on my first trip there, I suppose....

1Life2Live:

Thanks so much for all the recommendations. We are definitely going to try El Milagrito and the Original Donut Shop since our younger son loves Donuts.

And Tamtot: You MUST try a breakfast taco, it%26#39;s one of the best breakfast items, ever.

What is in a breakfast taco? And I promise to try one. I%26#39;m so excited to try the new food places down there. Just two weeks to go!

You have a few choices here: chorizo and eggs; potato and eggs; potato, bacon, and eggs..

Just check out this website to get an idea

And everything is wrapped in a flour tortilla. Yum!

What other places do you want to try while you%26#39;re in SA?

For the best tacos ever try Piedras Negras De Noche at 1312 S. Laredo or Patty Taco House @ 2422 S. Hackberry St. A great place to check out for dinner if you like Los Barrios you%26#39;ll have to try La Hacienda de Los Barrios out out Redland Rd off of 1604 the food is excellent as the surrounding %26amp; a beautiful atmosphere. www.lhdlb.com well worth the trip. Also the Silo has excellent food %26amp; service www.siloelevatedcuisine.com

Tamtot you can also get good tacos in the market square area at Mi Tierra here is the website you can check out, there are so many variation on the tacos www.mitierracafe.com or at El Mirador www.elmiradorrestaurant.com

Some good tacos is Bean %26amp; Cheese or Bacon %26amp; Egg, Ham %26amp; Egg, Barbacoa, Carne Guisado %26amp; there are so many others. check out the above website for breakfast tacos.

Carne asada w/ cheese

...

also in walking distance of your hotel is Taco Haven

touristless..definitely local, good

http://www.tacohaven.info/about.html

...

The mix of donut/taco place is sort of interesting..there is a double drive-in..one lane for tacos and the other for dounts..you order and for lakc of space .the lanes criss-cross each other...you%26#39;ll see.

Tamtot,

I used to live out your way for a couple of years (my wife and I refer it to our 4-year exile from Texas), and I seem to recall that you could pick up some breakfast tacos out there, if you just want to see what they are. Try a carniceria, if you can find one. Any mexican restaurant with breakfast will have them, and that%26#39;ll give you the basic taste.

Mind you, the very BEST Mexican food in the Atlanta area compares to the lower levels here (ignoring the fast food chains). Go to La Margarita, and you%26#39;re in for a treat.

Be sure to try some real barbecue brisket while you%26#39;re in, as well -- you%26#39;ll never look at barbecue the same way again!

OH, NOW I%26#39;m excited! I haven%26#39;t had time to plan my meals down there! My son has to be back on base by 7 each night; so we will be able to eat wherever we want later that night! Are most of the best places down near the Riverwalk?

No, but a lot of good places are. There is good Mexican and BBQ scattered throughout the city.

If you stay near the Riverwalk, the total food bill will get high. The same goes for eating too much along the 1604 north corridor between NW Military and 281... But, the food will be good!
