swine flu

I was just wondering if anyone else is vacationing in Texas anytime soon. We are supposed to leave next week. I can be a bit paranoid, but do not want to ruin my vacation by over thinking. However, when you see the cdc coming out with statements that it is likely to see more severe cases of swine flu in the US even though it hasn%26#39;t yet, it makes you wonder if you want to expose your children to a place where some of the first cases have been seen.

swine flu

It seems that swine flu is much like other strains of the flu and is contracted through human interaction, not from a place. There have only been 2 confirmed cases so far in Texas and both are reportedly mild cases and those that are infected are recovering. Yes, the CDC said there are likely to be more cases, but it has also said not to panic. I wouldn%26#39;t cancel my vacation because of a new strain of flu, but you have to do what makes you most comfortable.

I knew this was going to come up and soon. At the moment, there are 3 probable cases, (two confirmed) and all mild, all students at one high school, Steele, in Cibilo Cibilo is 20+ miles from downtown San Antonio, yet there is a connection. It is still a SA suburb. Some parents of kids in the one high school do work downtown. Will it spread? Can%26#39;t say. The high school has been closed as a preemptive measure, until May 3. Good for them for not waiting. I live in the area affected, shop at the same grocery store as those parents, same movie theaters, and my health club would be theirs too if they go. I%26#39;m not terribly concerned, do think about it, but I am living right in that area, too. Downtown at this point I would not worry at all, but stay tuned to new developments. 48 hours ago, I didn%26#39;t even know it was here...today I know more about it than I ever thought I would need or want to. So far in the US it has been a mild illness and hopefully will remain so. From what I have heard, the deaths in Mexico have been in patients who have waited far into their illness before seeking medical treatment. That is normally not the way we handle illness in the US...except for the men among us. :%26gt;

Truly, nothing to joke about, but at this point things are still very much OK.

I don%26#39;t think you need to worry it%26#39;s very safe %26amp; they are taking all precaution to prevent any breakout %26amp; watching very closely. I don%26#39;t feel worry %26amp; I live in the area as well cause all precaution is being taken!!!!

Come %26amp; Enjoy yourself without worrying!!!!!

The facts - we%26#39;ve had several confirmed cases, all in the Cibolo area (just north of SA.) They have closed that school district for a week, and have urged folks to not go to large group meetings (like church) and not to travel if possible. No one has been hospitalized, and many have recovered already.

These precautions are to try to minimize the spread.

We just finished the biggest festival (Fiesta) and there were no signs of anything different going on. Life here in SA is continuing as usual but everyone is just a little more aware.

If it were me, I wouldn%26#39;t let it deter me. We live in America with a GREAT health care system and we are managing the threat.

We%26#39;re due to fly over to the US on the 30th April, first stop Florida then over to Houston. Just wondered if Tamiflu is available over the counter or on prescription?

The news in the UK is a tad scare mongering but we are still coming over.

One headline here is saying that we should all cancel non-essential trips to Mexico %26amp; the USA.

You need a prescription here, but one isn%26#39;t all that hard to procure, even if you are from overseas. Even the free clinics usually have someone authorized to write a prescription.

Still, EVERY confirmed case in the US save one has been mild (no worse than the regular flu), and there isn%26#39;t a huge outbreak in Texas.

Houston has not had a single suspected case yet, and San Antonio%26#39;s are thus far very isolated.

Living and working here, we can honestly say that there aren%26#39;t a disproportionate number of people coughing, sneezing, or absent. Most of the recent coughs have been from oak pollen, which is only now dying down.

Come on over -- you%26#39;ll have a great time.

The problem is that I can%26#39;t seem to keep face masks on my pigs. Every time I turn around, they%26#39;re off again and the pigs are coughing all over Texas. What%26#39;s one to do?

Two words - staple gun!

My family leaves for SA next Tuesday. I heard about the cases in SA this A.M. and did some reading, but at this point, we%26#39;re not changing our plans. I%26#39;ll be interested to see how things develop over the next week... I%26#39;m more nervous about the confined plane as being down there.

I%26#39;m supposed to go to San Antonio on Thursday and haven%26#39;t made up my mind whether or not to go. Please keep us posted on what%26#39;s new in SA.
