Hotels-M.D.Anderson area

We will be spending some time at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Are there affordable, decent hotels in that area that you would recommend?

Short answer - Yes, although affordable is a relative term. Several threads here - search and you will find it. June 2008 had a detailed one and some reerences to it since then. If you still need additional info let us know.

There are several hotels / motels with a shuttle service. Some has a discount for those at MD Anderson.

Also check out Rotary House, which is a hotel for guests and some patients connected to MD Anderson.

Ditto on Rotary House...best rates and walk way connecting you to MD Anderson. Very professional and kind staff. If you have trouble contacting them, the folks at MD Anderson can help.

If Rotary House doesn%26#39;t do it for you, there are Marriotts in and around the med center. At the high dollar end and about a mile away, but an easy, safe walk is my favorite... Zaza.

In other threads, I%26#39;ve recommended the Best Western. We stay there when our daughter has to visit Children%26#39;s. BW offers a medical rate. We%26#39;ve tried other hotels with BW the winner for price, cleanliness, location and amenities (fridge, microwave).

Hotel Zaza is good, and easily connects to the Med Center either by shuttle or by MetroRail.

Also prior to visiting MD Anderson, make sure to note if you are visiting the main hospital or Mays Clinic and which elevators to take. They are connected via the SkyBridge, but they are a bit of a walk. Rotary House is in between the two. The main SkyBridge that links the two have golf cart shuttles so you don%26#39;t have to worry about the long hike and patients get priority over employees. Knowing those two pieces of information will make it easier to get around and if you get lost that information will help employees point you in the right direction.

think he said ';affordable';

try the hotels along old spanish trail.... springhill suites or marriott residence inn or hamptonn inn... the rotary house also an excellent choice.... i%26#39;ve stayed there while a patient...

Yes, I%26#39;m so used to walking around the area (we live a few blocks away) that I forget about the train and shuttle from Zaza. Who knows... they might have a discount plan that brings them in line with other lower class options. M. D, Anderson discount??

There are people in the area that donate their garage apartments to families of people undergoing treatment at MDA. Our neighbor does that for Gov%26#39;t workers (he%26#39;s a retired public service employee). Not intending to create a rabbit trail for you but things like that might be an option (not sure how one would find out about it though).

You can also check with the cancer society. A friend of mine works for them and arranges hotel rooms for patients. I think she can get some good medical discounts. I don%26#39;t know how much advance notice they need.
