Ive read some nasty stuff about hotels and dining in Salado . Can anyone recommend somewhere great to stay and a half way decent dinner place?
Salado, TX B%26amp;B's
We really enjoyed this B%26amp;B:

Can%26#39;t remember the name of the restaurant we liked, but it was Mexican food in an old house on top of a hill.
Salado is a pretty cool town -- enjoy!

How about this place?

The Mexican restuarant on the hill might be the Salado Mansion... does that sound about right?
You will find beautiful little separate cottages and native landscape at Stonecreek Settlement (stonecreeksettlement.com). The Inn on the Creek has historic buildings right on Salado Creek. Treat yourself to a gormet dinner at Inn on The Creek on Friday or Saturday evening. Make a reservation! The Range is a Top Ten Restaurant by Texas Monthly. The Ambrosia Tea room is a great place for homemade soups and to die for desserts (lunch and tea time only).
Unfortunately, the Mexican food restaurant on the hill, The Mansion is closed due to retirement.
Don%26#39;t know if this infor is too late for you, but Johnny%26#39;s Bar-B-Q on the west side of I35 has good food, and great breakfasts. May not be ';heart-healthy'; but sure is good We also like the Limestone Cafe for breakfast IF it%26#39;s still open--do know it was for sale in the past. Can%26#39;t help with accomodations--we always stayed at my parents%26#39; house when there.
Do not let some of the negative comments discourage you. We have made numerous day trips to Salado and have also stayed at some of the B %26amp; B%26#39;s.
It has always been worth while. Our favorite places to eat are Cathy%26#39;s Cafe for lunch and Stagecoach Inn for dinner. Johnny%26#39;s is another good spot for casual lunch or dinner. The Range is great for special occations. The Inn at Salado has the best location. That would be our choice for where to stay. It is very old and has a great history. The rooms are clean and the breakfast can keep you going through lunch.
We ate at The Inn on the Creek last night. Excellent food. My sister stayed there for her honeymoon. Only good things to report.
I haven%26#39;t been to the Stagecoach in several years because it seemed to have gone downhill. Funny thing is my husband was a bus boy there about 25 years ago...his stories weren%26#39;t as bad as the one I just read. Glad to hear that the new owners are trying hard to improve.
Salado is a great little town. Enjoy!!
The Range has good food too!
Just stayed at the Yellow House B%26amp;B. Cathy was a fantastic hostess, and an incredible cook! Very nice and quiet, since it is a couple miles outside of town. Back porch with rockers, gliders and hammocks on the property. Homemade cookies when we arrived. Coffee/tea/soft drinks plus snacks available 24/7.
