Is the zoo worth going too?
San Antonio Zoo
If you have been to world class zoos then probably not..Just another place to see animals in captivity..I prefer places like Wild Animal Park in San Diego where the prisoners at least have more space to roam in a more ';natural setting';..
San Antonio Zoo
Parent Magazine just ran an article on the 10 best zoos - SA%26#39;s zoo came in 6th; San Diego zoo 7th
Gads...having been to both, what was the criteria for ranking them?? SD Zoo is the best I%26#39;ve ever seen. Honestly, although we have enjoyed the SA zoo, a couple of the habitat areas are sad for the animals!
SA Zoo is very nice %26amp; has a lot to offer. It is well worth a visit. www.sazoo-aq.org
I looked for the Parent magazine article. It has listed Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, where we lived prior to moving here, as the #1 zoo in the nation. I love Lowry Park Zoo...it is truly a neat little zoo, but once again, #1? Over San Diego? DC? No way.
Still, SA zoo is nice, and improving all the time, but not the same caliber as the great US zoos, truly! I don%26#39;t think trixie was looking for great--the question was, is it worth it, and I feel it is...just keep your expectations in line if you%26#39;ve seen some of the other nations top zoos.
Mind you, the Parents article was ';Top Zoos for Kids,'; not ';Top Zoos.'; San Diego%26#39;s zoo is fantastic, but it is brutal for little kids -- those hills take a beating on their little legs. Their petting zoo is nothing special, either. I could think of a few dozen that are better.
San Antonio does have a nice zoo for children. The zoo is pretty nice overall, for that matter...
Thanks everyone, I think we are going to try it!
Although the San Diego Zoo is great I was referring to the Wild Animal Park,a seperate entity up the 15..
I totally agree with you mike in Texas you are totally correct.
Our kids are grown and have kids of their own, but my wife %26amp; I still love the SA Zoo. For her, Lory Landing is heaven. We make a beeline there upon entering, then visit it toward the end of the zoo trip. We spend a fair amount of time in the butterfly pavilion as well. Also, the number of exotic birds that reside in the open there (not contained by cages) is great.
