Hi - my family and I (2 adults to 2 kids aged 5 and 9) will be in Houston in late June for a week. We are looking to do some shopping, relaxing (movies etc) and take in some sights - can anyone advise where would be best to base ourselves? We would like to stay in a luxury standard hotel as we are looking for a bit of a treat and we also have a big ';40'; birthday to celebrate when we are away! Any suggestions of good hotels that will welcome the kids would be greatly appreciated, in addition to any good activities or things to do whilst we are there!
Good place to base for a week in June?
Recommend any of these three that are in the vicinity of the Galleria Mall, Houston%26#39;s high end enclosed shopping mall west of Central Houston. All have good web sites, and are rated by TripAdvisor. The Omni will be the least expensive, but has a nice pool and grounds for the children. Either an auto or a car service will be needed.
Omni Hotel, 4 Riverway, Houston, TX 77056 (713) 871-8181
Granduca Hotel, 1080 Uptown Park Boulevard, Houston, TX 77056, (888) 472-6382
St. Regis Hotel, 1919 Briar Oaks Lane, Houston, TX 77027 (713) 840-7600
There are many other suitable hotels inside of, or within walking distance of the Galleria Mall as well.
Another option would be the Hotel Zaza, 5701 Main Street, Houston, TX (713) 526-1991 located just south of Central Houston near Rice University, many museums and Herman Park %26amp; Houston Zoo.

Since you are coming from Venezuela I would suggest either Westin Galleria or Westin Oaks - inside the Galleria Mall, as most guests are either from Mexico, Central or South America. You just might run into fellow Venezuelans. If you are looking for something to %26#39;get away%26#39; from the fellow Venezuelans and neighbours (and one that is more luxury) - St. Regis is it (as the previous post mentioned). Either way - Galleria area is what I would suggest.
Hi C,
Try this link:

My husband and I stay at Staybridge when we go to Calgary for aork, a week at a time--it feels more like having an apartment--great to have the little kitchen, and get some snacks and things for the kids, and wine and cheese for the adults (you can go to the HEB grocery store nearest you--awesome muffins, etc! The kids will love the breakfast, and SBS often has free food in the afternoons, a little %26#39;happy hour%26#39; idea, on weekdays. The pool is a nice addition for hot summer afternoons, and they have a laundry room for guests, as well.
I would also suggest the Drury Inn near the Galleria, as it has a good free breakfast, and they have a %26#39;happy hour%26#39; as well, free, each night! The upscale hotels can be nice, but I know when travelling with children, it is great Not to have to buy every snack or drink from a machine, and you can have some healthier snacks available, this way.
Be sure to look for a hotel with a nice outdoor pool, as you will want to end your activities about 3 or 4pm,and come relax by the cool pool in June.
Don%26#39;t miss the Museum of Natural History, and the Cockrell Butterfly Center, within the museum--it is a ';living experience%26#39; you will all enjoy. Near the Zoo (go when the Zoo opens, the animals comeout early, as they days get so hot, later on--then, head to the museum when you leave the zoo. There is a McDonald%26#39;s In the museum, too.). You can buy a City Pass, that might save you some money!

Enjoy!

The Galleria has a great ice skating ring on the first level...the kids will love it..one of you can shop the VERY nice shops on the second floor while the other sits at the lovely cafe while watching the kids--or joining them.
Depending on your time, your kids would enjoy Kemah or NASA....and depending on their age.
