holiday in Texas ?

Trying to decide wether to visit Texas this year? Have been to USA several times, mostly East coast from New York, Washington down as far as Key West, also Georgia..Love Florida particulaly Sanibel Island ( have outgrown Theme Parks.. Orland etc ) but love most things American... What are your views..and where in Texas ? its a BIG state. Ive heard there are amazing canyons and beautiful scenery, what towns are interesting and what about the costal regions??As you can tell I know little about this Lone Star state so need all the info going!! Thanks for your help.

holiday in Texas ?

The costal regions and the mountains/canyons are no where near each other, as you may have guessed by looking at a map. Big Bend National Park, which has amazing scenery, beautiful canyons and a rugged landscape, is about a 12 hour drive from Galveston, which is on the coast near Houston. Unless you have a very long holiday planned (three weeks or more), you%26#39;re going to have to limit yourself to a particular region of the state.

How much time do you have?

What are you interested in seeing and doing? More outdoor activities or urban cultural activities like museums and fine dining?

Probably most importantly, when are you planning to come? As you may know, it%26#39;s very hot in most parts of Texas during the summer months, especially August. You probably would not want to be hiking in Big Bend National Park with temperatures over 100 degrees. October through early November are lovely times to visit most parts of the state.

..In short, a favorite is San Antonio, Austin area, the hill country.

ex. Luckenbach, Gruene, Bandera, Fredricksburg TX

LBJ Ranch,

San Antonio-riverwalk, Alamo, missions, Sea World

Austin-Univ of TX, LBJ Library, 6th street,Bob Bullock Tx Musuem

...

TEXAS beaches are a distant third to Calif. and Florida beaches. I would do this only if you had the time.

...

Hi Chrissy, welcome to the forum.

We are tourists like you and have visited Tx several times and I heartly can recommand to visit (even the beaches!) but we have been in autumn (october) and that%26#39;s a perfect time of year but as already been mentioned high summer is very hot and humid, but in autumn or spring, just go. Options are countless. And yes, take at least 3 weeks.

Many of the cliche%26#39;s are true - Horse riding, Rodeos, Bar-B-Que, Dance Halls with live music, Huge ranches. We also have regular big city amenities - Opera, Museums, world class restaurants.

I%26#39;m partial to San Antonio - Austin corridor.

Specifically, what kinds of things are you looking to do? Shopping, Cowboying, Nature Activities, Big City stuff? Ranch Stuff? Wilderness Stuff?

Give us some guidelines and we%26#39;ll give you some better suggestions.
