Gaylord Texan... Best massage ever!

Our friends got married at the Gaylord Texan this weekend, my husband and I stayed there for two nights. We had a great time, but I think what made it so fun was that we had great company and got to see a lot of friends we haven%26#39;t seen in a while.

FOOD ALLERGY: If you are allergic to dairy/eggs: The chipotle BBQ sauce does not have dairy in it... served with wings and ribs... and also on meatballs that were served at the wedding. The coffee shops have fresh fruit (bananas, oranges, apples) some cereals and soy milk, One of the coffee shops has pre-made sandwiches (which have cheese on them, but I was able to pick the cheese off and eat the sandwich without a reaction... the packages have ingredients listed on them) The turkey was served with avocado and the ham had a roasted red pepper on it, so it wasn%26#39;t that plain. Bread for burgers, sandwiches and on the side of entrees was buttered, chicken breast sandwich at poolside grill MAY have had butter on it... I wiped it off and did not have a reaction, so it may have been oil, but if you are very allergic, be aware. Ama Lur looks like everything is served in a creamy or butter sauce from the menu, but we did not eat there.

THE GOOD:

Swedish massage with Eva at the Relache spa... best massage I have ever had, and I have had a few. I really enjoyed the spa all together, and fitness center too. sauna, steam room, nice spacious showers. The women%26#39;s lounge had a TV, which was a little weird because I wouldn%26#39;t expect that at a spa, but there is a women%26#39;s only slumber room/quiet room too and a co ed quiet room. Really friendly women%26#39;s locker room attendant named Katie. Big, huge towels to wrap up in, just very relaxing all together. Once again, best massage I ever had. Fitness center had lots of treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, mats, a few weight machines. There is also an inside lap pool that I didn%26#39;t make it too.

great food at the wedding - crab legs, shrimp, oysters, breaded lobster tails, crab cakes, beef tenderloin, turkey... if you are planning a wedding at this hotel, looks like you have good dining options.

GREAT BBQ WINGS and waffle fries at the sports bar... also mango mojitos, but I asked them to make that special. :)

The Glass Cactus: went on Friday night and it wasn%26#39;t too crowded... had a great time inside on the dance floor with live band and outside on the patio... good because there is a free shuttle from the hotel to the bar. We tried to go after the wedding on Saturday and it was too crowded for us... there was a long line outside the bar, we guessed they were at capacity.

Pool: The pool was really beautiful, look at the pics on their website. I only got to sit out for an hour or two, but I enjoyed myself... peach margarita!

THE AVERAGE/BAD:

Everything at the hotel was really overpriced (except the massage) We never experienced bad service or bad food/drinks at all. Everything was mostly average, as in I don%26#39;t have a lot of bad things to tell you about. BUT the prices were so high that I was expecting more than average. ie: grilled chicken sandwich with bagged lays potato chip($13) and peach margarita($8) at the pool side bar were good... I just expected more, like maybe a fancy twist on a chicken sandwich and kettle chips or a really strong drink in a large glass.

Everything in this hotel is inside a giant atrium. It is weird to feel like you are outside, but really you are inside. Its just an odd feeling to me.

This is also a giant hotel... if you are going with friends and staying in separate rooms, see if you can request rooms near each other. It took us 15 minutes to get to our friend%26#39;s room... that%26#39;s a long walk after a few/several drinks. :)

Also, valet parking is a zoo... it was so frustrating! I recommend self parking if its busy because it will take you just as long to walk from your car to the door as it would to wait in your car behind a stupid person that left their car door open in the lane next to you while he/she unloaded the entire population of the united states from his/her back seat... I%26#39;m just sayin! It looked like a nice walk too, but by the time I figured this out, it was already too late.

Rooms were just like any other hotel room at any other hotel. I guess the price is so high because of the entertainment options on site.

I don%26#39;t think that my husband and I will stay here again. It was fun for that short period of time, but it was overpriced. Might be more fun to just go to Mexico. :)
