Can anyone tell me if they would go to the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Galveston or the Holiday Inn on the Beach? Both look about the same price for mid July? Does anyone know if these hotels were damages by the hurrican or if they are ok to stay in?
thanks so much?
Holiday Inn Sunspree
The Sunspree is my favorite place to stay in Galveston. It did sustain damage from Ike, but I stayed there just six weeks after ander all was well.
The lobby and other areas had been newly refurbished; an artist was touching up the charming murals around the main elevator.(I am not associated with the owners or anything remotely like that)
They have a pool with a swim-up bar and waterfalls, so far as I know the only one in Galveston with both. It is within walking distance of many restaurants and shops. I love the Gulf View rooms the best, especially from the highest floors.
Also, and not insignificant, the service there in my experience has been very good to excellent.
I and family members have stayed at 8 or 9 other hotels on Galveston Island, but NOT the other Holiday Inn, so please take that into consideration.
Just so you know, neither are actually ';on the beach';. As you can see from their addresses, both are located on Seawall Boulevard, which runs between the hotels and the beach. This is a paved two-way stretch of road that runs parallel to the coast, two lanes each direction. It can be busy at peak times, but there are plenty of traffic lights in the main hotel area, where both HI%26#39;s are located, that will allow you convenient and safe crossing.
Hope this information helps!
Holiday Inn Sunspree
I stayed there before Ike and it was so-so.
Obviously the view and the atmosphere was outstanding. But here is my warning about the rest.
You want to be careful about shopping hotels for price in Galveston. If you are looking for a ';cheap'; hotel that is exactly what you will get. Consider who and why will be staying in a generic hotel. I guess what I am trying to say is the class of people who stayed in the hotel with me was substandard. There were children unsupervised running amok at all hours, people yelling back and forth across the lobby, sand in the hallways, unexplained booms and doors slamming.
When I commented to the front desk about it they seemed overworked and apathetic.
Unfortunately this is common for hotels in Galveston and it used to happen to me alot. People dont respect the property they stay at and do whatever they like with no repercussions. After 10 years of hotels in Galvestons I have discovered Bed and Breakfasts and I will never take a chance with hotels again.
Have stayed there many times and found the hotel to be the best in Galveston at its price level. Nice pool, nice beach directly in front of the hotel and a great tiki hut palapa bar.
Since the hurricane all of the rooms were redone as well as the lobby and restaurant and everything seems better than ever.
Thanks for the info. Canyou tell me, I read somewhere about if you stay at this hotel you are able to use the resort next doors pool and restaurants?? are you familiar with this?
thanks
No priveleges at the only neighboring resort (The San Luis Resort %26amp; Conference Center); only at the other Holiday Inn. I just called Sunspree %26amp; spoke to Jeff to confirm this information.
Again, hope this helps.
