planning a trip to fort sam houston first weekend in June

This will be my first time out to Fort Sam Houston to visit my boyfriend thats in medic training and was wondering if anyone can lead me in the right direction on picking a nice, reasonably priced, safe neighborhood, and safe hotel thats not that far from fort sam houston?? I had a couple in mind...comfort inn and suites near the at%26amp;t center or the comfort suites san antonio right off the I-35...any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I would suggest that you skip that area and stay near the airport. You can drive down Harry Wurzbach from 410 and get there.

Wouldnt the area near the airport be kinda hectic? Which would be a closer commute...the downtown area or airport area?

I am not sure what your definition of reasonable would be, but I would recommend you stay at one of the hotels off the Riverwalk. A quick check on expedia for the 1st weekend of June shows pretty decent prices for the Residence Inn Alamo Plaza, La Quinta Convention Center, Sheraton Gunter, Crockett Hotel, and even the Hyatt Regency has a special rate. Fort Sam Houston is pretty close to downtown so you would have a short drive from any downtown hotel and staying near the Riverwalk is always a plus. Of the two hotels you listed I would choose the Comfort Inn on I-35 over the one near the AT%26amp;T Center, but neither one would be my first choice.

Yes staying near the airport would be hectic + some construction, it would be a headache. If you don%26#39;t want to stay downtown %26amp; deal with that traffic mess.

You should check out the Drury Inn which is a great value for your money + lots of FREE amenities. It%26#39;s in a safe area Windcrest + it%26#39;s only a 7 min drive to Ft Sam Houston www.druryhotels.com also check out the Hawthorn Suites N www.hawthornsuitessa.com it close to Ft Sam Houston + in safe area without the traffic hassle.

I agree I would avoid the Comfort Suite AT%26amp;T not a good area %26amp; not that close the other Comfort Suite is borderline but just a couple exit down you have the ones that I listed that are safer %26amp; still close by.

BTW you also have the Pear Tree Inn on Walzem which is part of the Drury chain. www.druryhotels.com Hope you find what your are looking for that meets your criteria for a great visit with the boyfriend.

BTW when you check out the Drury it%26#39;s the one in the NE area so that is the one that is close to Ft Sam Houston. Drury NE

Thank you everyone for your advice...it is greatly appreciated! I will be sure to check out those places that you all listed!!
