Best way to Kemah from Austin during early rush hour?

Decided to spice up our quarterly trip to Children%26#39;s Hospital by also visiting Kemah. What route to Kemah would you recommend, given that we will arrive in the Houston area around 4 - 5 PM? Mapquest advises us to take 610 N to 610 E to 225 and then 146.

The last time we went to Galveston (from Austin) and were arriving in Houston at about the same time, we took Beltway 8/Sam Houston Tollway all the way around from 290 to 45. It was a bit longer, but we avoided the horrible traffic on 610.

That is what I would do (225 to 146). So 290 to 610 (from the North side) to 225 to 146. You might find some congestion on 610 around I-10 area - but all and all should be okay.

We usually drive 71 to I-10. Would these routes work from I-10?

Yes, except once you pass downtown that portion of I-10 will be congested. From I-10 you can take the toll road (beltway 8) around all the way to 45S and then just take Nasa road or take 610 North and go around the north side of 610 and then pn the East side of 610 to 225.

If you can make it past downtown by 3:00P (or maybe even 3:30P) then I-10 should be okay all the way to 610 (on the East side) and South on 610 to 225.
