I will have 4 days trip in Austin and it is the first time to come US. I plan to live in super 8 motel north because it is relatively cheap. But I wonder if it is safe. Since I don%26#39;t have a car, how can I go to the downtown for sightseeing? If I take a taxi, how much about the transprotation fee? And do you guys have any other suggestion to me? Thanks a lot in advance.

I guess you%26#39;ve read the reviews of this hotel? If you don%26#39;t have a car and expect to take a taxi, you%26#39;ll probably end up spending about $20 per one-way trip for cab fare. That could offset the savings of the less expensive hotel. The local bus company, Capitol Metro www.capmetro.org is an option -- but according to their trip planner you need to walk about 1/2 mile to the bus stop.

If you%26#39;ve read posts on this forum before you%26#39;ll know we strongly recommend staying downtown.
There%26#39;s an Extended Stay America at 6th and Guadalupe that is in a very safe area. It%26#39;s probably your least expensive option downtown. Next least expensive is the La Quinta at 12th St. near the capitol. But it%26#39;s worth the extra money it will be over the Super 8. By staying at the Extended Stay or La Quinta you%26#39;ll be able to take the Metro Flyer bus from/to the airport that serves downtown and UT. Very, very inexpensive. Also from the downtown locations you%26#39;ll be able to walk to lots of attractions, parks, restaurants, etc.
Staying at the less expensive Super 8 means you%26#39;ll need a taxi from the airport, to and from downtown every time you want to eat, or see anything. And the cab will have to be called, they%26#39;re not right at the Motel door on a regular basis.
Welcome to Austin!
Thank you very much for your suggestions. Actually, I will join the conference in Freescale Semiconductor at 7700 W Parmer Lane one day in my 4 days trip. So I choose the motel is not too far from the Freescale. Is any bus from downtown to Freescale? If so, I will listen to your advise to live in downtown.Thank you again for your reply.
From what you%26#39;ve indicated I think you%26#39;re better off staying downtown and taking the taxi one day out to Freescale. You%26#39;d probably have to take a cab to Freescale from the Super 8 anyway.
There%26#39;s always the chance someone from your conference will offer you a ride back to downtown. Texans are friendly!
This is the web site for the public transportation (bus) system.www.capmetro.org/
Otherwise you%26#39;re away from all the activities and only going to Freescale for the one day.
Hope this helps?
