Just back from my son%26#39;s Airforce BMT graduation. So neat to see him again...looks great and seems good about his decsion. We had a great time!
Just some reviews on hotel and restaurants:
Residence Inn: I felt like this was a safe area. We walked everywhere. My two other sons walked back from the Riverwalk at 3:00am both nights and never had any problems...felt safe. The staff here was one of the nicest I have ever encountered. Were eager to answer any questions and help whenever possible. Asked for roll-away..it was there in 5 minutes. Asked for extra towels....5 minutes again! Very clean. Very good breakfast every morning(eggs, sausage gravy biscuits, waffles, etc.)The one bedroom suite was a litle small for 4 people, but we managed ok. One son slept on sofa-sleeper and other on roll-away. We walked to the Riverwalk from there on Friday afternoon for dinner with our new Airman and then again later that night to go to Howl At The Moon. So if you dont mind walking, it is very doable.
MiTierra Restaurant - Not quite sure why this restaurant gets the rave reviews here on Trip Advisor. Dont get me wrong, we enjoyed it just nothing special. Food didnt taste any different then the Mexican food I get here in PA. It is really decorated neat though!
Saltgrass Steakhouse - Very good meal and good service. Only one steak not done right, and they were very apologetic about it. Not bad price either. Around $175 for 5 people. Three of us had one drink each. No appetizers...one dessert shared.
Mad Dogs - Stopped in here for a drink Friday afternoon before dinner. For being a British Pub wasnt there wasnt that much beer to choose from on the menu. Sons and husband dissappointed in that. They were looking to try something really different.
Howl-At-The-Moon - Fun Place. Dueling Piano Players. Very crowded here so get there by around 8 if you want a seat.
Ritas on The River - Again...nothing special. Just ok food.
Red Lobster(near Lackland) - My Airman was hungry for seafood so we ate here. Very good.
I will post another thread for info on BMT Graduation and base stuff.
PM me if you have any other questions.
thanks,

Just Back - Some Useful Info
Thanks for sharing your SA experience, you are right Mi Tierra isn%26#39;t the best Mexican Food in SA but it has the Tx spirit %26amp; the better one in the area of Riverwalk %26amp; Market Square. I agree about Rita%26#39;s, we like to have a Margarita there %26amp; people watch, it has a fun atmosphere, that about it.
Will be waiting patiently for the rest of the TR would love to hear about the BMT graduation!!!!!
Saltgrass is 1 of my favorite place for steaks.
So glad to hear that overall you had a great stay in SA!!!!!!!
I%26#39;ll pray that God keeps your Son safe!!!!!!
Thanks for your feedback..Glad everything went smooth..Don%26#39;t hear much about Residence Inn so that was good news..I don%26#39;t recommend Mi Tierra except for eating after the bar scene(3am)..Not many good choices since Maggies closed years ago..At a lot of steakhouses, the waiter will wait as he asks you to cut into the meat..If I remember correctly,at Saltgrass,I usually order my meat cooked 1 temp higher(medium as opposed to MR}..I hope they served Watney%26#39;s beer at Mad Dogs..It is one of my fave beers..A lot of people ask about BMT graduation so any advice will be great..
Dont remember seeing Watney Beer at Mad Dogs. But not sure
