Mustang Towers is HORRID

We have taken many trips Port A and decided to try a new condo this year. BIG mistake. I would not recommend Mustang Towers to anyone nor would I ever go back. This is the only bad experience we have ever had with a condo here and we have stayed in 5 different facilities now. If it were just one thing, I could ignore it but there were way too many problems to ignore and I just thought people should know. I apologize in advance for the length. First, we rented a 2 bedroom condo and upon arrival, the staff was pleasant. We went up to our room and it smelled. Not just a little. It smelled BAD. There was also dog hair all over the rug in the second bedroom. I promptly went to the desk and asked for a refund. We had called and made arrangements to stay at another condo allready. The staff apologized profusely and said their rooms were not normally like this and offered to upgrade us to a 3 bedroom. I declined. They asked me again to just go look at it and if I still wanted to leave they would refund the money. OK. Good customer service so far... but not for long. We checked out the other room and it looked fine just walking through. So we decided to go ahead and stay. We were meeting another couple and decided to call them and invite them to come and stay with our family (taking advantage of the situation). Once we got into the room and started to unpack I began to notice some really gross stuff. There was hair in the master bedroom bathtub, fresh towels were out and everything but when you pulled back the shower curtain...HAIR. I had allready complained and we allready had people coming to meet us so I cleaned the bathtub and started to look at the beds to make sure they were clean just in case. I am not kidding when I say that there was hair in the master bed when we pulled back the sheets. So, I started to do laundry. Now, if thats not bad enough, the second issue...we get a call at 11:00 from the people below us, asking if we were moving furniture. The unit was all tile with heavy wooden chairs around the table and heavy iron chairs at the bar. I told her yes we were just pulling the chairs out from around the table. That is the only thing we had done besides walk. My kids were asleep in bed by 12:00 am but I was doing laundry until 2:30am. The next morning we get a call from the front desk saying we were being too loud. I called the people below us who by chance had a condo that was all carpet, and told them that there was nothing we could do. We couldn%26#39;t not use the chairs and not walk. I also invited them up to look at the unit and see the chairs that we were talking about and to walk around and see if that was the noises they were having a problem with. They declined. The staff admitted that there is a problem with this unit and that just walking makes a lot of noise below but the also said we needed to keep it down and that if we had another complaint that we would have to leave. We asked for our money back for the second night so we could leave and go elsewhere but they refused to give it to us saying that they have a 72 hour refund policy. We also offered to switch units with the complainers, have them move, have us move, whatever... NO resolution other than, if there is another complaint, we have to leave. They did come up and put some pads on the chairs to try and quiet them but the maintenance man said ';well, thats not going to work';. OH YEAH, they also told me I was innapropriate for calling the people below us and if I had anything else to say it needed to go through the front desk. Now who called us at 11:00? I believe it was room 1101 not the front desk. The last problem, we only looked into places with hottubs. Well, when we get ready to go down and get into the hottub... Its upside down in the grass being replaced. No mention of that from the staff when we made reservations. In summary, I would Never stay here again. Not even for free.

I%26#39;m so sorry that you had this experience, but it was just one person%26#39;s experience. My family has a timeshare here and have been coming for several years with little issue. I just wanted to let others know that it%26#39;s a great place to stay, in my opinion.

How funny that I was just looking into this property today while planning summer vacation. Thanks for your review; I will remove this condo from our list. I%26#39;m sorry you had such a bad stay.

We have had great times at Mustang Towers, and found it to be better than other units we stayed at due to the fact that there are only 56 units in the condo and a large expanse of beach. (4 units/floor) This results in the beach being much less crowded than other condos in the area.

The hot tub is great and since Mustang Towers is placed far back from the road, it is very quiet.

Tile floors in a condo will result in noise for those units below, whereas carpet will be quieter. However, some people don%26#39;t like carpet because of allergies.

We had no issue with the housekeeping-everything was fine and they were willing to help.

Our unit was #1403, which is next to the top floor. It was tastefully decorated in ocean motif and clean. The four poster bed and furniture was awesome.

We just spend 2 days at the Mustang towers and we wanted to write a review for other folks to know about this place. Its the reviews that help most people decide which place to go.

Here are the negatives (before I forget) :

1. The rooms without carpet were dirty and sticky. You will realize this if you walk barefoot on the kitchen, bathroom or the washer/dryer room.

2. Mustang Towers is an old building that has been probably renovated. There is very little maintenace done. Dont compare this place to the regular maintenace of Holiday Inn or Crowne Plaza.

3. There is only 2 bedrooms or 3 bedrooms here. We had the two bedroom and the master bedrooms bedsheets were clean. However the second bedroom has dirty sheets.

4. There were no clean towels. They looked clean for an instance when I was taking a shower due to the gleaming high light in the restroom, but when I observed very carefully, there were yellow stains on them. Nasty.

5. I would NOT recommend anyone to go to Mustang Towers with children. I will post some pictures and I feel freaky about the wood panel walls or whatever you call them. Any 2 or 3 year old could easily just run thru them and from the high storey towers. This is my personal opinion. Use my pictures to judge.

6. The sofas has lots and lots of dog or cat hair. It had not been cleaned.

7. Check in time is at 4:00 pm and when we walked in at 4:30 pm, someone from maintenance was checking the room to see if everything was OK.

8. ';YOU'; have to throw your own garbage before you leave! I am not kidding you. There is a ';chute'; where you throw your garbage away yourself before you leave !!!!!!! So all restroom tissues, water bottles, etc etc is your responsibility.

9. Maid service is $35 for two bedroom. (not that we would ever spend money for room cleaning). This is done free at other hotels.

10. Mustang Island hotels close early. We went to dinner at 9 pm on Thursday and all restaurants were closed. I am not kidding. We had to drive to Corpus to Shoreline Blvd to get a meal at Water Seafood which closed at 11 pm. It was a 30 mile drive.

Here are the positives:

1. Excellent and amazing view. It gives you the perfect view of the Gulf of Mexico. Its not half a view, side view or a partial full. Its a FULL view which was amazing.

2. The balcony is atleast 20 feet tall, lots of space.

3. Good friendly people.

4. The beach was awesome %26amp; awesome !!

Personally, you have to decide what you like. We wanted the view, so we sacrificed on other things. There were not much details posted by anyone. The island is only 20 miles long. There is a one lane road on 361. The tip here is to move to the service lane and let the other car pass. This is OK to do. I did not know this and finally learnt it :)

Just goes to show that opinions will differ. My family loved the Mustang Towers, and will return, The unit we were in, 903, had all the comforts of home. The biggest plus is that it%26#39;s right on the beach with a fantastic balcony view of the ocean and a very short walk to to beach. The spa and pool were sparkling. We didn%26#39;t use the tennis courts. It was pretty quiet, concrete walls and floors, You could sometimes faintly hear kids running around in the unit above but that was it. The towels %26amp; soap are not luxury level, but the beds were very comfortable and they had good TVs. Even had tapes and games for the kids. The beach there is not crowded and we loved the clean white sand. It%26#39;s literally 100 feet from the beach, but not noisy up high on the balcony. We will definitely go there again.
