Looking at car rentals for a 3 day weekend trip (6/26 to 6/29) and see Enterprise Full Size for $128 at IAH, or $84 at Enterprise HOUSTON NORTH 9203 NORTH FWY HOUSTON, TX 77037. It seems like there are enough airport fees to induce me to look at off airport rental. My flight arrival and departure will both be during mid-day. Does anyone have any comments, or know of a better deal, or location to pick up a rental car? I will be traveling alone, and I pack very light - so all suggestions are welcomed.
Off Airport (IAH) Car Rental
I am looking a Breezenet.com (a great car rental site for comparison shopping), and I find full-size thru Enterprise for $23.49.
I don%26#39;t know if they%26#39;ll pick you up at the airport, but you need to factor in taxi/shuttle costs round-trip for an off-site location, too.
Off Airport (IAH) Car Rental
The airport taxes are always high. Usually you can drop it off at the airport for no extra fee - so all you have to figure is the taxi or hopefully a free shuttle to the hotel where there is a rental. Old Sofitell (I think Crown Plaza now) has a rental - so if you rent the car with pick up at that hotel - then you can take the shuttle to the hotel pick up the car and go your merry way (and drop off at airport - usually for no additional taxes or fee).
I got my rental through Priceline for $17/day for full sized car through Budget. The taxes and fees at IAH are extortionate, not merely high. My $51 dollar rental nearly hits $100 gross amount. Without that, the $1.25 each way to bus out of the airport would have barely been worth the $40 it would save -but sometimes I become stingier due to the principle involved. I know that no other Enterprise would pick me up at the airport, when they already have a branch there - thanks for the help.
