San Antonio with biker and 12 yr old in May

My husband has gone bike crazy and will be going to S.A. for some hill training. If my daughter and I accompany him, we will need to drop him off early in the morning (ca. 7:30 am) if we want use of the car. Of course the rides are on opposite sides of town. What would be a good place to stay for easy weekend morning access to Balcones Heights area and area north of Stinson airport (Bulverde)?

Are there hotels with Shuttles to Sea World or San Antonio so we could stay up north and let him have the car? Are there attractions downtown for a 12 yr old where we would not need a car?

For any bikers out there, is there a hotel from which he can safely get to the Walmart at Rigsby %26amp; 410 or Bulverde Elementary School (Rebecca mirror ride) by bike? That would give us one day where he doesn%26#39;t need chauffeur service.

We will be coming from Houston on a Friday afternoon.

Please give suggestions for 12 yr old in any case since we may come another weekend in summer or fall with a more relaxed schedule.

Stinson Airport is nowhere near Bulverde. You are a qite right about the ride being far apart. I would suggest that you stay near the airport/281 area for ease to get to both locations, that would be somehat central to both.

There are a few thing downtown for a 12 year old, but you really need the car. I would try to taking him into the bulverde ride if he want hills and skip the rigsby ride.

I agree I would skip the Rigsby %26amp; 410 area not the safest area around.

Near Bulverde you have a New Drury which is very nice with great hotel amenities but it%26#39;s not by anything to do without a car. www.druryhotels.com

Their is the Hyatt Hill Country Resort that has 4 acres of water playground %26amp; things for kids to do that in the area that you are looking for.

www.hillcountry.hyatt.com

In the downtown area their is lots to do plus you won%26#39;t need a car even for a 12 yrs old. You have the Riverwalk www.riosanantonio.com %26amp; Rivercenter Mall, IMAX Theater www.imax-sa.com + their are lots of sites to see if you plan to see sites while DH is riding????!!!!! Here is a website to check out www.visitSanAntonio.com to see if any meets your criteria for fun things to do plus there is a Drury on the Riverwalk which is very nice %26amp; a great value for your money. www.druryhotels.com/properties/Alamo.cfm %26amp; a Drury Inn %26amp; Suites www.druryhotels.com

I clicked on the wrong map link for the Bulverde ride. Thanks for pointing that out.

I may consider the Hill Country Resort since they have a AAA special right now. Or I might find him a basic place and save our trip for another time.

At least now I can see where he will be going.

If you decide to stay HHC there is a nifty weekend biker bar (should be kid friendly) called Hill%26#39;s and Dale...sometimes classic cars visit. On the access road of Loop 1604..opposite side of UTSA...i.e. outside 1604.

';Beer lovers know this Texas icehouse%26#39;s treasure: they have one of the largest beer selection for miles. Enjoy patio seating, live music on weekends and a beer for every taste.';

t-hombre while I recommend Hill%26#39;s and Dale%26#39;s to any beer lover - I think we%26#39;re talking about two different kinds of bikers here.

As to kiddos -

Children%26#39;s Museum - great for the younger kiddos, within walking distance from most downtown hotels. http://www.sakids.org/

The Buckhorn Museum is across the street from the Children%26#39;s Museum. Lots and lots of stuffed animals (the real kind). www.buckhornmuseum.com

The zoo is great, one of the best in the country, www.sazoo-aq.org It will require a bus, cab or short car trip. Once you%26#39;re there, you can also take a miniture train to the Witte Museum. www.wittemuseum.org Among other things it has a fun science treehouse.

Guinness World Records Museum, Ripley%26#39;s Haunted Adventure, and Davy Crockett%26#39;s Tall Tales Ride - These are WAY touristy, very generic, and too expensive for my mind. But the Davy Crockett could be fun for the little ones. www.haunted-guinness-crockett.com

Check out Our Kids Magazine It%26#39;s a free publication that you can pick up a lots of places or at www.ourkidssanantonio.com

Water is another great thing for kiddos - Both sea World and Fiesta Texas have water parks inside the park. Schliterbahn in New Braunfels as is the more natural experience of toobing the Comal or Guadalupe Rivers.

Thanks for all the tips. I will file them away for later. Since the logistics were getting too complicated, we are going to wait and have a family San Antonio trip in August or September. For now, I booked him the Comfort Inn in Seguin.

Seguin is about 30 min from SA especially Bulverde area. If he is riding in SA there are reasonable hotel in SA as well.

OK, I am finally getting my bearings regarding the San Antonio map. The plan is to ride on the east side starting at 410 and 87 (Rigsby) on Sat. and Bulverde on Sunday. The Drury Inn NW near med center and Drury NE windcrest 410 %26amp; 35 are both around $100 with NW location getting better reviews.

Does Drury NW seem like a reasonable location for this?

Thanks for your help.

The windcrest area would be central you could try out the Days Inn www.daysinn.com

Also a La Quinta Inn on I-35 N @ Toepperwein %26amp; Rittiman www.lq.com

There is a Red Roof Inn 4403 IH 10E www.redroofinns.com on IH 10 that would be a little closer to 410 %26amp; Rigsby about 10 min %26amp; 20 min from Bulverde

Hope these help you out in what you are looking for in reasonable rates that are nearby.
