What to do

I%26#39;m visiting Houston at the end of October for a wedding but would like to see some of the state in the week before. I enjoy horse riding. Any suggestions please.

What to do

I would suggest the Hill Country and Bandera.

Bandera will allow all kind of horse riding opportunities at the dude ranches. See previous posters for more information.

The Hill Country is a large area between Houston and Bandera will lots of nice places to visit. San Antonio to Austin to Fredericksburg, that triange of area is the Hill Country.

October will be nice weather for your trip, too.

Welcome to Texas!!

What to do

Are you comfortable with driving in the States? If so, you could fly into DFW airport, taxi into Fort Worth about half an hour away. Stay overnight there, visit the Stockyards for a taste of the Old West while fighting jet lag. http://www.fortworthstockyards.org/

Next day rent a car and set off for the Texas hill country. Take the scenic route: I35 to Hwy 174 at Burleson, to Hwy 67 at Cleburne, to Hwy 281 at Hico.

Along the way to Hico, you%26#39;ll go by Dinosaur State Park 鈥tate.tx.us/spdest/鈥?/a> which makes an interesting stop.

Down Hwy 281 is Johnson City, hometown to US President Lyndon Johnson. Turn right there onto Hwy 290 to Fredericksburg. At Stonewall, about 20 minutes on, is the good Becker winery. Another 20 minutes takes you to Fredericksburg for an overnight stop. Allow about 4.5-5 hours driving time Ft. Worth to Fredericksburg.

Then on to a dude ranch at Bandera which is about an hour and a quarter south of Fredericksburg. There are several in the area. Dixie gets good reviews. Spend a couple of nights there, then on to San Antonio%26#39;s riverwalk (1.5 hrs) for a couple of nights, then on to Houston (3 hrs). Fly out of Houston.
