Trip Report:
Flew to Corpus Christi from DFW. Nothing exciting about flight so I will just continue with my trip report.
Just some brief info. I went with my husband from April 21st through the 24th. I had never been to Corpus while my husband went several times but the last time for him was about ten years ago.
Got a midsize car from Dollar at the airport. Drove straight to the hotel, the Radisson Corpus Christi beach resort. We were happy that the room was ready early, had a good size balcony, and was right on the beach. The people at the front desk were nice even giving us bandaids, etc. when we asked. Housekeeping was good as well. The cons of this hotel is lack of parking and their sleep number beds. One day we had to ask them to fix our bed because while playing with the remote, half of the bed sunk and then would not get back into a flat position. They fixed that immediately. When coming back to the hotel late in the evenings, we had to circle around the parking lot waiting for someone to leave in order to get a parking space. All of that said, we were very happy with this hotel and would definitely stay there again if we go back to Corpus. It was a great location and very quiet plus the view of the beach was fabulous.
We walked from our hotel to the restaurant Pier 99. It is a casual dining place that basically serves burgers and seafood and has a bar in the back. They have good live music on the weekends. We really liked their food and even ate lunch there twice.
We walked from Pier 99 to the USS Lexington. My husband is a huge history buff and really enjoyed the exhibits. They also have 2 IMAX movies, one is included in the price of admission. He really liked the IMAX movie while I fell asleep during it .
After relaxing at the hotel, we ate dinner at Blackbeards. I called earlier and decided to eat there after they told me they had live music even on Thursdays. While the food is good, I had a chicken sandwich and my husband had fish, the music was not very good. One person was playing (not a whole band) and he was just okay. We did like the food enough to eat there for dinner another night.. It was very convenient to go to, it was right next to the hotel parking lot.
The next day we had coffee and granola bars out on the balcony of our hotel before going to the Fulton Mansion. It is basically an older house that has been restored. Some items were original while others were duplicates of what they would have had at that time period. We went on a tour that just consisted of one guide and two other people other than ourselves. We toured the first two stories of the house, the basement and the third floor were off limits. It was a very interesting tour.
We went from there to the Texas Maritime Museum. This really was not my thing but thought my husband would enjoy it. He did not find it as interesting as I thought he would. It was a small museum and just was not that exciting .
After that, we ate at Moondog’s. We really liked it. Someone on tripadvisor recommended it and I am so grateful. They had good margaritas and a great view of the boats. We really enjoyed the place. It is a casual eating place (I may even say it borders on being a dive), just what we were looking for. I am more of a scrubby jeans and t-shirt person, especially on vacation and do not like fancy places. I would definitely come back here for lunch. Very casual.
We then came back to the hotel and hung out on the beach. It was very windy the whole time we were there but I was determined to get in the water after seeing how beautiful the beach was from our balcony.
We then got cleaned up and went to the Hooks game. They played the Frisco RoughRiders at Whataburger field. As a side note, my husband is a huge fan of the Whataburger. Crazy as it sounds, he knows about the history of the whataburger and it is one of the very few fast food places he will eat at. So going to a minor league baseball game at Whataburger Field and eating whataburgers there was a very big deal. I had called up the box office and bought tickets about a month in advance. I cannot read a seating map so I just asked the guy at the box office to get us the best seats possible. We ended up sitting second row, behind 3rd base! Excellent seats except for the fact that the last batter in the 9th inning hit the ball and it came flying right in front of my face. Lucky for me, my husband jumped in front of me and caught the ball. He ended up cutting 2 fingers and bruising his knee but he still caught the ball. We have kept it as a momento of our trip. I call him my hero because if the ball hit me in the face that would have been very painful. Our seats were also excellent for watching the spectacular fireworks after the game. I have never sat so close to the field before.
The next day, Saturday, we went to the Boat Show. When originally booking this trip I did not know anything about the Boat Show, I found out about it while on the internet about a week before leaving for Corpus. We had a great time. There were lots of vendors seeing their wares and you could walk around on several yachts. We also ate lunch at the two story Whataburger across the street (no surprise there!). We spent the majority of our day at the boat show because it was so big. It was really nice that it was on the water instead of being inside like the boat shows usually are in DFW.
One of the Christopher Columbus ships was there as well. It was a lot smaller than I would have thought.
That night we ate again at Blackbeards and had drinks at Pier 99. It was very busy at both places, probably because it was a Saturday night. The band was really good at Pier 99 so that made it really fun to have drinks there.
On Sunday we decided to have lunch again at Pier 99 before walking to the aquarium. I just loved the aquarium and could have actually spent the whole day there but we had to get back to the airport. The reason I liked the aquarium so much was not only was the bird show great but we were able to get really close to the animals. What was the unique about this aquarium was all of the outdoor exhibits where you could see dolphins, sea otters, giant turtles and manta-rays. That made the whole experience really fabulous. It is the best aquarium I have ever been to. I still remember the names of some of the animals we saw.
We then dropped off the car and boarded our plane. We had a good time in Corpus. I just wished the wind was not blowing so strong. I want to thank everyone on tripadvisor for all of the help in planning this trip.

Thank you for the great trip report! I am very happy you enjoyed your stay in Corpus Christi. Moon Dogs is one of my favorite places. Glad you enjoyed it. Come back soon!!!
I am glad you enjoyed my trip report. I was hesitant to write it because I have never written one before and thought it might not be very well written.
I felt I should write one because of all of the help I received from people on this forum with planning our trip. We would have not even known about Moondogs if it wasn%26#39;t suggested by those on this forum. Thank you all so much!
Great trip report, thanks for writing it. We stayed at the Radisson several years ago. Parking was an issue then as well. I%26#39;ve heard they%26#39;ve renovated the rooms recently which is a good thing, they needed it when we were there. Glad you had a good trip.
