I%26#39;ll be in El Paso this coming weekend and wondering about visiting Juarez. I%26#39;ve many fond memories of that city (decades ago) and would like to go there. I%26#39;ll likely cross at the Santa Fe bridge and stay on or near the old main drag (Alcazar, Manhattan Bar, market, etc.)
Is it safe enough now that the federal troops have been there awhile ? A native of El Paso friend says no but I%26#39;d like more opinions.
Thanks in advance !
I%26#39;ll post this on the Juarez forum as well
Visiting Juarez
No, its not safe to go go to Juarez, the federales are the ones you have to watch out for, even the people from Juarez don%26#39;t want them there, since they arrived things have gotten worse.
People that go over, usually have to, family, work, etc.
Visiting Juarez
Juarez is no longer a destination to be going to. The all of Mexico is pretty much no longer safe to travel. Blatant murders are rampant. Businesses and the poor are hurting due to non-tourism. Sad, but true. It%26#39;s not safe anywhere across the Mexican border.
Thanks Folks. Your comments line up exactly with what my friend from El Paso has said recently. I was hoping someone would disagree strongly enough that I could justify taking a short stroll across the bridge for old time%26#39;s sake. Or that things had improved enough recently due to the large influx of federal troops into Juarez. (a gent on the Juarez forum says the troops have made it worse !?!).
I guess the drug-dealers (and drug-users here in the states) have ruined a good thing.
